Sock Size Chart for India: UK, US and EU Sizes Explained

Chicken print bamboo socks

Choosing a sock size is easy once you know your shoe size. Indian shoe sizes follow the UK system, so a size 8 in India is a UK 8. This sock size chart shows how UK, Indian, US and EU sizes match up, and which Bare Kind size to pick.

Bare Kind sock size chart

Sock size Shoe size (UK/India) Usually fits
M 4–7 Most women, teens and older kids
L 7–11 Most men

If you are on the border at size 7, either size will fit. Choose M for a snugger fit or L for a slightly roomier one.

How to measure your size at home

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall in centimetres.
  3. Compare with the size label inside a pair of shoes that fit you well, and use that UK/India size in the table above.

Measure in the evening, when feet are slightly larger, and use your larger foot.

Choose by shoe size, not gender

All our designs are unisex. A woman with size 8 feet should choose L, and a man with size 6 feet should choose M. Pick the design you love, then pick the size.

Buying socks as a gift?

  • If you know their shoe size, use the tables above.
  • If you don't, L is the safer choice for most men and M for most women.
  • Socks stretch, so a size that's slightly off usually still fits comfortably.
  • Still unsure? A Bare Kind e-gift card lets them choose their own size and design.

Socks for kids

Our kids socks come in M (UK/India 4–7), which suits older kids and teens with that shoe size.

Keep the fit for longer

Bamboo socks keep their shape best when washed at 30°C or cold and dried flat. Avoid tumble drying, ironing and bleach. Read more in our guide to bamboo socks benefits.

Signs your socks are the wrong size

A sock that doesn't fit is uncomfortable all day and wears out faster. Watch for these signs:

  • The heel sits above your heel. The cupped heel should hug the back of your foot. If it rides up onto your ankle, the sock is too small.
  • Fabric bunches at the toe. Extra fabric folding over your toes means the sock is too big, and it can rub inside shoes.
  • The cuff digs in. Red marks around the ankle or calf usually mean the size is too small.
  • Holes appear quickly at the big toe or heel. Socks stretched too tight wear through faster at the pressure points.
  • The sock slides down into your shoe. This often means the sock is too big, or the elastic has been damaged by hot washes.

Sock lengths explained

Size tells you how a sock fits your foot. Length tells you how high it comes up your leg. The most common lengths are:

  • No-show: hidden inside the shoe, for loafers and low sneakers.
  • Ankle: sits just above the ankle bone, popular for sports and casual wear.
  • Crew: comes up the lower calf, the classic length for office wear and printed designs.
  • Knee-high: reaches just below the knee, mostly for formal wear, school uniforms or compression.

Our printed and ribbed bamboo socks are crew length, so the design shows above the shoe.

What if you are between sizes?

Feet are rarely identical, and shoe brands vary. If your shoes range from UK 7 to UK 8, size up to L. Bamboo blends with elastane stretch to fit, but a sock that's too small will feel tight sooner than a slightly roomy one feels loose. For narrow or slim feet at size 7, M will feel more secure.

FAQs

Are Indian shoe sizes the same as UK sizes?

Yes, Indian shoe sizes generally follow the UK system. If you wear a size 8 in India, you will usually wear a UK 8.

What sock size is UK 6–11?

That range spans both our sizes. UK 6 is our M, UK 7 fits either, and UK 8–11 is our L.

What size socks for UK size 4–7?

Choose M. It is made for UK/India shoe sizes 4 to 7.

Do socks have sizes?

Yes. Most quality socks are sold in size bands linked to shoe size, so they fit at the heel and toe instead of bunching.

How do I measure my sock size?

Socks are sized by shoe size, so start with the shoe size you usually wear. If you are unsure, measure your foot from heel to longest toe and compare it with a brand's shoe size chart. At Bare Kind, M fits UK/India shoe sizes 4–7 and L fits 7–11.

Are shoe size and sock size the same?

Not exactly. Most socks are sold in bands that each cover several shoe sizes, such as UK 4–7 or 7–11, because knitted fabric stretches. So you pick the sock band that includes your shoe size. Bare Kind M covers UK/India shoe sizes 4–7 and L covers 7–11.

What does one size socks mean?

One size socks are made to stretch over a wide range of feet, often roughly adult UK 4–11. They can feel loose on small feet and tight on large ones. Sized socks, such as Bare Kind's M and L, fit more closely at the heel and toe, so they bunch less.

What sock size should a teenager wear?

Choose by shoe size, not age. Many teenagers already wear UK/India shoe sizes 4–7, which fits a Bare Kind M, including the Kids Collection. Teens with size 7 or larger feet should choose L. For a size 7 foot, Bare Kind recommends L for a roomier fit.
